What will Scouting be like 100 years from now?

Just think. Scouting has been around for 100 years! Since American Scouting began in 1910, the world has seen two World Wars, we have witnessed the rise of the automobile from a novelty for the rich to a necessity for many, we have seen the Soviet Union rise and fall and the Cold War begin and end, we have elected both Democrat and Republican presidents, we have gone to the moon!

Fifty years ago, 1960, our fellow Scouts and Scouters, some our fathers, brothers, uncles, or cousins, celebrated the 50th Anniversary Jamboree--the Jubilee Jamboree. Boy's Life Magazine asked its readers to ruminate what Scouting would be like in 50 more years, at the 100th Anniversary. The responses were, well, interesting...

Boy's Life held highest confidence that the 2010 National Jamboree would be held on the moon and that spots might be difficult to attain, as there would be 500,000 Scouts already signed up (just for the record, the Jamboree this year is on earth, and there are about 40,000 Scouts attending). It also seemed that Summer Camp would no longer be held at, say, a treasured section of the Ozark mountains, like Kia Kima, but rather on the surface of plastic-bubbled asteroids ("Lucky we found one, I thought they all were taken!"). Another futuristic wish many of us would like to see is the "Learning-by-Electrode" Machine, where, of course, you strap on the brain cap and learn anything you would ever want to know by sitting there. Unfortunately, I still go to school everyday, how 'bout you?

So...here's the question: What do you think Scouting will be like in 100 more years (2110)? Leave your comments here and, 100 years from now, let's see if any of them were right!
